Guidance on how to strike:
Artists, Freelancers
-
Refuse to work directly with Outset.
-
Refuse to have your work purchased by Outset as part of their acquisitions programmes.
-
Do not take up their offers of studios.
-
Refuse Outset residencies.
-
Do not accept invitations from Outset to give talks to or meet with their patrons.
-
Refuse to have your projects ‘supported’ using funding from Outset at other institutions.
-
Tell organisations you are working with that you refuse funding from Outset.
-
Do not allow your work to be shown in rooms sponsored by Outset or studios carrying the Outset name.
-
End any existing or future partnerships with Outset.
-
End any existing or future funding from Outset.
-
Anyone involved in art prize processes, including nominees, judges, and juries, should be aware of who funds shortlisted projects. Endorsing projects funded by Outset supports their artwashing agenda.
If you are working with an organisation who takes funding from Outset for other activities:
-
Share the STRIKE OUTSET information and your commitment to the strike with the
organisation and any co-workers involved. Make sure the organisation is aware of the reputational risk of continuing a relationship with Outset, and being complicit with a cultural organisation that is part of the ideological and institutional scaffolding of Israel’s regime of occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid against the Palestinian people. Raising awareness can help encourage them to end the relationship.
If you have previously been supported by Outset:
-
Ask for your name to be removed from the Outset website, social media etc.
-
Email Outset to tell them you are no longer comfortable to have your name associated with them.
Artworkers
If your place of employment receives funding from Outset:
-
Inform your organisation and your colleagues about STRIKE OUTSET. Raise
discussions about the reputational risk of continuing a relationship with Outset, and being complicit with a cultural organisation that is part of the ideological and institutional scaffolding of Israel’s regime of occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid against the Palestinian people. Raising awareness can help encourage them to end the relationship.
-
If you’re in a union at your organisation, raise a motion and demand that your organisation cuts ties with Outset and signs up to the STRIKE OUTSET campaign.
